Mansfield and Clarion Play to 1-1 Draw
MANSFIELD –
Karyn Anselmo scored in the 40
th minute to tie the game at one goal apiece in what would prove to be the final outcome despite playing two overtime periods Saturday afternoon as Mansfield played to a draw with PSAC foe Clarion.
The Mountaineers created plenty of scoring chances in the game with 10 corners and eight shots on goal. The Golden Eagles were limited against a stingy Mansfield defense, being held to just three corners and three shots on goal.
Clarion (2-7-5, 2-6-3 PSAC) struck first in the 18
th minute when Bethany Naugle dribbled past two defenders and found the back of the net from the right side of goal.
Anselmo's game-tying goal came when she collected a saved shot by
Kelsey Chapman in front of the net and played the ball past the Eagles' keeper. The goal was the freshman's third of the season.
Mansfield (2-9-2, 0-8-2 PSAC) keeper
Alexis Wilhelm played all 110 minutes in goal and tallied three saves.
The Mountaineers are back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 16 when they travel to Slippery Rock.
