MANSFIELD – Bloomfield scored three goals, two of them coming on direct kicks less than two minutes apart, in the last 13 minutes to rally past Mansfield 3-2 in women's soccer Sunday afternoon.

It was a stunning change of events for Mansfield, which despite leading 1-0 at the time, had carried most of the offensive pressure in the game.

All three Bloomfield goals came over a three minute span between the 77th and 80th minute.

Mansfield led for 73 minutes after freshman Renae Bowman beat the goalkeeper to the left from seven yards after taking a perfect pass from Erika Moyer. It was Bowman's second goal of the season and held up through halftime and later into the game.

Mansfield put pressure on the Bloomfield goal midway through the second half just missing on a header by Kariann Breed as well as shots on goal by Lauren Boess and Leah Furerst.

The tempo seemed to be going the Mountaineers way until Bloomfield's Mikie Bradley was awarded a direct kick in the first seconds of the 77th minute and put the ball off the outstretched hands of freshman goalie Alana Krieger who was seeing her first minutes of collegiate action after replacing junior starter Alexis Wilhelm at halftime.

117 seconds later, Bloomfield was awarded another direct kick with Bradley sending another line shot into the upper part of the net for a 2-1 lead.

Mansfield didn't have time to regroup from the shocking turn of events before Bloomfield pressured again less than a minute later with Stacey Jones scoring off an assist from Christine Rutherford off a breakaway.

But the Mountaineers did not fold and cut the deficit to 3-2 when Bowman scored her second goal of the game off an assist from Moyer with just over five minutes remaining. Mansfield kept the action in front of the Bloomfield goal getting a couple of opportunities, the best a shot by Neele Hoerner that was stopped by Bloomfield's Katrina Guevara.

Mansfield held a 11-10 shot advantage and 4-1 advantage on corner kicks. Guevara had four saves in goal for Bloomfield with Wilhelm and Krieger combined for two saves for Mansfield.

Mansfield opens the PSAC season when the Mountaineers travel to Gannon on Friday.
