Millersville Edges Mansfield 1-0

LOCK HAVEN – The Mansfield University women's soccer team (1-6, 0-5 PSAC) was edged by a regionally ranked Millersville(5-3-1, 3-3-1 PSAC) 1-0 Wednesday afternoon. The contest was played at Lock Haven University's Hubert Jack Stadium due to the unplayable conditions at Mansfield's soccer field.

In the first half, Mountie keeper Alexis Wilhelm maintained a clean sheet, making six saves to keep the Marauders off the board.

Leah Fuerst and Jessica Kerwin each put shots on goal in the half, but were unable to beat the Millersville keeper.

The first half ended in a scoreless tie with the Marauders holding a 9-3 shot advantage.

Mansfield's defense continued to deny scoring opportunities for Millersville in the second half while the Mountie offense threatened.

In the 76th minute Renae Bowman put a nice ball on goal, but the shot was denied by the Marauder's keeper once again.

Millersville scored the first and only goal of the game in the 80th minute when Taylor Suskie received a Tess Briggs cross pass and placed it in the bottom right corner of goal to take the 1-0 lead. The goal marked Suskie's second on the season.

Mansfield went on the attack for the remainder of the game, but came up empty falling to Millersville with a final score of 1-0.

The Mountaineers will travel to No. 12 ranked West Chester University Saturday, October 1 in a PSAC match-up. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m.
