Mansfield Hosts Princeton in Battle of Firsts

Freshman quarterback Mike Maniscalco ran for one touchdown and threw for another against Cornell
MANSFIELD – History will be made again when two of the most historic programs meet on the gridiron when the Mansfield University Mountaineers host the Princeton Tigers in a CSFL showdown this Saturday, Sept. 24 at Karl Van Norman Field.

The 1 p.m. kickoff will be one of the highlights of Mansfield's Fabulous 1890s Celebration and Parents & Family Day.

Mansfield, which hosted the world's first night football game on Sept. 28, 1892, and Princeton, which played in the first-ever collegiate football game against Rutgers in 1869, will be meeting for the fourth time since Mansfield joined the CSFL in 2008. Mansfield has won all three of those games including a 10-6 nail bitter last year at Princeton Stadium.

Both teams enter Saturday's matchup with 0-1 marks after Cornell rallied for 17 points in the final eight minutes of the game to pull out a 37-23 win of the Mountaineers while Princeton dropped a 37-0 decision to Pennsylvania.

Mansfield is under the direction of head coach Dan Davis who established the sprint football program in 2008. Princeton is led by first-year head coach Stephen Everette.
