LOCK HAVEN – Sophomore
Danielle Murray scored her first goal of the season, but it wouldn't be enough as visiting Shippensburg (5-5-3, 3-4-2 PSAC) came away with the victory over Mansfield in PSAC play.
The Red Raiders put one up on the score board early when Ashley Velluci headed a Ship corner kick into goal in the 2nd minute.
The Mansfield (1-8, 0-7 PSAC) defense rallied to prevent another score until the 43rd minute when Kate Zech placed the ball into goal to give Shippensburg a 2-0 lead going into halftime.
After the break, the Mounties cut the lead when
Danielle Murray played a ball just out of the reach of the Raider keeper to make the score 2-1. The goal was Murray's first of the season.
Ship added another goal in the 74th minute to go up by two scores.
Mansfield couldn't overcome the deficit and fell with a final score of 3-1.
Mountaineer senior keeper
Alexis Wilhelm had a game-high 8 saves while freshman Alana Krieger added 6 saves.
Mansfield is back in action Oct. 11 when they face off against Bloomsburg University. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
