MANSFIELD – Senior Neele Hoerner scored her second goal of the season, but the Mountaineer women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to visiting Lock Haven Thurday afternoon at Smythe Park.

It was Mansfield (2-14, 0-13 PSAC) who struck first when Hoerner placed the ball into the top of the goal via a long Renae Bowman pass to give the Mounties the 1-0 lead in the 20th minute. It marked the second straight game that the Mounties scored the first goal of the game.

Lock Haven (6-8-3, 4-7-2 PSAC) answered back with a goal of their own in the 38th minute to tie the game at a goal apiece.

The Lady Eagles came out swinging in the second half scoring goals in the 46th and 74th minutes.

Mansfield couldn't overcome the deficit and fell with a final score of 3-1.

Mountie keeper Alexis Wilhelm recorded 15 saves on the day including nine in the second half.

Hoerner along with fellow senior Kariann Breed will be honored before Saturday's game in the Mountaineer's senior day game against Kutztown.

Saturday is also the culmination of Mansfield's Red Card Cancer week. The team is selling t-shirts and collecting donations for cancer research.
