Mansfield Blanks No. 12 West Chester in First Half, but Can’t Hang On in 3-0 Loss

Boxscore

WEST CHESTER – The Mountaineer defense held West Chester in check for the entire first half preventing the Rams from getting on the board, but the No. 12 ranked team in the nation rallied to score three goals in the second against Mansfield to take the 3-0 victory.

Junior keeper Alexis Wilhelm denied all scoring chances for West Chester in the first half, recording 6 saves between the sticks. However, Mansfield's offense had a tough time against the nationally ranked Rams, only getting one shot off in the first 45 minutes.

Tough defense led the Mounties into halftime with a scoreless tie.

West Chester came out of half with a vengeance though and scored three straight unanswered goals in the 46th, 48th and 63rd minutes.

The Mountaineers couldn't put together a scoring opportunity and fell with a final score of 3-0.

Freshman Renae Bowman led Mansfield with a shot on goal while fellow freshman Alana Krieger came in at the 67th minute and shut the Rams out. Krieger also recorded a save during her 23 minutes in goal.

Marie D'Angelo led the way for West Chester with a score and two shots on goal.

Mansfield is back in action Oct. 7th when the Mounties host Cal. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m.
