MANSFIELD – The Mansfield University sprint football team will hit the road for the first time this season when the Mountaineers travel to Princeton for a CSFL matchup with the Tigers this Friday night.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Powers Field at Princeton Stadium. The game will be broadcast live by Brian Armstrong on ESPN Radio Williamsport and be streamed at GoMounties.com.

Both teams will be looking for their first win of the season. Mansfield dropped the season opener 23-15 to Cornell before suffering a 57-8 setback to Army last Saturday at Karl Van Norman Field. Princeton lost to Penn 48-12 in its season opener and was beaten 33-12 by Cornell last Friday.

Mansfield and Princeton met twice last season with the Mountaineers winning both games, a 33-0 season opening win at Mansfield and a hard-fought 26-14 victory at Princeton.

The Mountaineers never managed to get untracked against Army's high-powered offense last Saturday. Mansfield committed six turnovers in the game, including two that were returned for touchdowns during a four minute span in the second quarter.

Mansfield managed to record 165-yards in total offense with Michael Wallace picking up 44-yards on eight carries and Kode Plank and Spencer La Mountain combining for 121 yards passing. Senior Ben Anderton caught a career-best six passes for 64 yards. Sergio Santana had two catches for 19 yards.

The defense was led by Eli Morgan, Paul Houseknecht, Solomon Isom and Justin DiMatteo with eight tackles each. Troy Taylor returned an interception for 13 yards.

Sophomores Kode Plank and Spencer La Mountain have split quarterbacking responsibilities in each of the first two games this season with Plank completing 12-25 for 158-yards and a touchdown while La Mountain is 10-22 for 65 yards. La Mountain also scored a touchdown on an 18-yard run against Army.

Ben Anderton ranks second in the CSFL in receiving yards on the season with 94-yards on 10 catches including a touchdown. David Wallace has three catches for 32 yards.

Paul Houseknecht ranks second in the CSFL in total tackles with 22 on the season while senior linebacker Solomon Isom is third in the league with 21 tackles and Eli Morgan fifth with 15 stops.

Princeton has shown offensive improvement over its first two games averaging 13 points per game against Penn and Cornell. The Tigers are led by running back Kevin Infante who has gained 69-yards over the first two games and quarterback Jaison Zachariah who has completed 13-35 attempts for 234-yards and two touchdowns. Kees Thompson has six catches for 135-yards including a 75-yard touchdown. Ataya Divit tops the defense with 14 tackles.

Mansfield will return to Karl Van Norman Field next Saturday when the Mountaineers host Pennsylvania in one of the highlights of Homecoming Weekend.
