Women's Soccer Falls to Lock Haven 2-0 on the Road

MANSFIELD – The Mansfield University women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss in a PSAC contest at Lock Haven University today. Junior
Kariann Breed led the Mountaineer offense with two total shots including one on goal.
The Lady Eagles of Lock Haven took an early lead when Jenny Williams scored her first goal of the season from 10 yards out in the opening minutes of the game.
Mansfield's
Kariann Breed almost answered back with an equalizer less than a minute later, but Lock Haven keeper Hayley Zinn prevented the tying goal.
Lock Haven struck again in the 22nd minute when Alissa Gamelier took a back heeled pass from Bree Orth and found the back of the net. This gave the Lady Eagles an early 2-0 advantage over Mansfield.
Mansfield's defense was solid throughout the rest of the contest, only allowing two Lock Haven shots on goal. Mountaineer goalie,
Alexis Wilhelm, recorded two of her three saves in the second half keeping Lock Haven off the board.
The Mansfield offense struggled to find opportunities against a strong Lock Haven defense only putting one shot on goal compared to Lock Haven's five. Lock Haven also outnumber Mansfield's corner kicks ten to three.
Mansfield falls to 1-9-1 overall and Lock Haven improves to 4-7-1.
The Mansfield women's soccer team is back in action this Tuesday at 4:00pm in a home contest against Edinboro University.
