MANSFIELD—Cornell quarterback Zak Dentes threw for one touchdown and ran for another, and the Big Red amassed 456 yards in total offense enroute to a 35-0 victory over Mansfield in a Collegiate Sprint Football League contest Saturday before 3,100 at Karl Van Norman Field.

The contest marked the debut of sprint football at Mansfield after the varsity program was disbanded following its 115^th season in 2006.

Cornell struck paydirt on its opening two possessions on Dentes' one-yard sneak followed by his 25-yard scoring pass to wide receiver Joshua Friedman.

Reserve quarterback Elliot Corey, who threw for 105 yards, extended Cornell's lead to 21-0 early in the second quarter on a one-yard run.  Running backs D.J. Schiavetta and Ryan Smith completed the Big Red scoring with runs of one and five yards, respectively, in the third period.

Mansfield  (0-1, 0-1), composed primarily of first and second-year players, played with intensity before a regional television audience.  The partisan crowd showed its support to the final whistle.

Quarterback Danny Moss completed 6-of-13 passes for 47 yards before leaving the game. Tyler Floyd had four catches for 25 yards while Lucas Bailey had three catches for 25 yards. Bailey also returned three punts for 45 yards including a long of 19 yards.

Mountaineer weakside linebacker Soloman Isom posted a game-high 12 tackles, and defensive end Cody Croasdale added 11 stops.

"That's the type of game you get (today's performance) when you play freshmen against juniors and seniors", said Mansfield head coach Dan Davis.  "We're basically an expansion team, and we know that.  We played a very good Cornell team.  We didn't play our best but we played hard and we are going to get much better in the future."

Mansfield will host the University of Pennsylvania (2-0) next Saturday as part of Homecoming Weekend.
