Baseball Inks Four in Early Signing Period

MANSFIELD – Head coach Harry Hillson and the Mansfield University baseball program have announced the addition of four student-athletes who committed during the recent early signing period.
 
Hillson enters his 31st season at the helm of the Mountaineers where he has guided his teams to three World Series appearances, five PSAC Championships and nine eastern division titles.
 
Mansfield opens the 2017 season at King University in Bristol, Tenn. On Feb. 18.
 
J.P. Shaw (North Penn-Mansfield, RHP/1B)
Led the NTL in home runs with six while recording 29 RBIs … posted a 12-2 record on the mound and struck out 86 batters in 62.2 innings worked … named NTL Player of the Year … selected Tioga Publishing Company and Williamsport Sun Gazette Player of the Year … UnderArmour 17U All-Star selection.
 
Hillson's take: "I'm very impressed with J.P's composure on the mound. He throws upper 80s with an outstanding curve and change-up. Also brings a lot to the plate as a left-handed hitter with power."
 
Jake Manke (Lakeland Regional, 1B/RHP)
All-conference baseball selection in 2016 … named to 2nd Team All-Area honors in 2016 … Honorable Mention All-County 2016 … mother, Jenn, was a three-year member of the Mansfield University women's basketball team from 1988-91.
 
Hillson's take: "Big, tall left-handed hitter who make good contact and hits with a lot of power."
 
Hunter DePrimo (North Warren Regional, RHP/3B)
1st Team All-Conference selection in 2016 … posted a 1.89 ERA with four shutouts in 2016 … ranked fifth in the state of New Jersey in strikeouts with 71 … posted a 2.92 ERA with 57 strikeouts in 2015 … selected nationally by Baseball Factory in 2015 for its World Series in Omaha, Neb.
 
Hillson's take: "Fierce competitor. Two-way player with an electric fastball that touches 90 mph."
 
Ethan Shuster (Middle Township, RHP/INF)
Hillson's take: "Top-starter on the mound the past three years. Upper 80s fastball with good curve and change. Two-way player that has unlimited potential."
