FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Candelmo Sets NCAA Record for Fewest Walks Allowed

Joe Candelmo inked his name into the NCAA Division II baseball record books after shattering an 11-year-old record for fewest walks allowed per nine innings.
Candelmo allowed just one walk in 65.2 innings of work this season for an average of .14 walks per nine innings. The lefty nearly halved the previous record of .27 (2 in 66.1 innings) set by Trevor Thornton of UC Davis in 2002.
Candelmo posted the fewest walks allowed per nine innings of any Division I, II or III pitcher in the nation this season (minimum 50 innings pitched) with the second fewest being Mitch Renz of DI Cal St. Fullerton who issued just three walks in 115.2 innings for a .23 average.
As a senior, Candelmo posted a 4-4 record in 10 appearances on the mound with a 3.97 ERA. He threw five complete games and went at least 5.2 innings in each of his starts. Candelmo totaled 55 strikeouts on the year.
He was selected to 2
nd Team All-PSAC East honors as a starting pitcher.
