Pratt Named 1st Softball All-American in School History

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Kate Pratt Becomes First Mountaineer Softball Player Named to NFCA All-American Honors – Junior Named to 2nd Team

MANSFIELD – Kate Pratt (Troy/Troy) became the first player in Mansfield University history to be named to All-American honors by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). The NFCA All-America Team was announced tonight at the NCAA Division II National Championship Banquet.

Pratt, a junior, was selected to 2nd Team honors at shortstop after being named to 1st Team All-Atlantic Region honors earlier this month.
“We are all pleased for Kate and proud of her accomplishments,” said head coach Edith Gallagher. “She is so deserving of this honor and the recognition that goes along with being one of the best players in the nation.”

Pratt was one of just three players from the PSAC to earn All-American honors – along with Lindsay Reicoff and Shelby Lia of California who were also 2nd Team selections.

It was an historical milestone for the 33-year old Mountaineer softball program and a fitting tribute to Pratt who helped lead the Mountaineers to their first-ever PSAC Central divisional title this season.

Pratt, who was named the PSAC Central Player of the Year earlier in the week, was one of the most feared players in NCAA Division II this season.

The junior led the PSAC in home runs (17), RBIs (50) and slugging percentage (.888) while ranking second in doubles (13), seventh in runs scored (38) and ninth in batting average (.396).

Pratt set MU single-season records in home runs, RBIs and extra base hits (31). She also made her mark on the Mansfield career record book by setting the all-time home runs (32), doubles (35), extra base hits (71) and RBIs (115) marks in just her third season at Mansfield.

She was prominent on the national level as well, ranking third in NCAA Division II during the regular season in home runs per game (.42), 9th in RBI's per game (1.26), 11th in slugging percentage (.875) and 12th in total home runs.
