Lou DiFilippantonio was a four-year member of the football team playing under head coaches Rod Kelchner and Tut Moore. DiFilippantonio started all four varsity seasons at three different positions on the offensive line. According to his coaches and teammates, DiFilippantonio was the unquestioned leader of the team. He started every game of his career, playing center during his sophomore season and guard as a junior before earning All-PSAC 1st Team honors as a senior. He also played linebacker on defense.  The 1967 team was considered the Mountaineers best team since Mansfield won its final state championship in 1946. The 1967 team compiled a 6-3 overall record, suffering one score losses to East Stroudsburg (20-14) and Bloomsburg (42-37).
