Joe DeSanto was inducted into the Mansfield University Athletic Alumbi Hall of Fame in 1983 after an outstanding career (1970-73) with the Mountaineer baseball program … In his four seasons, DeSanto help lead the Mounties to an outstanding 82-42-1 record … During his freshman campaign, the Mounties won the District 19 NAIA, Area 8 NAIA and PSAC Championship as DeSanto finished second on the team with a .378 batting average … DeSanto followed with an impressive sophomore season where he again finished second in batting average (.412), while leading the club in runs (21), hits (35), and total bases (44) … DeSanto broke through as the program’s top slugger as a junior where he batted .469 with a career-high 60 hits and 77 total bases which, at the time, set school records … Three decades later, DeSanto holds the fifth slot for single-season batting average for his junior season … DeSanto is 16th all-time in career-hits (177) and his career batting average of .416 remains sixth … DeSanto is one of just seven players to steal over 40 bases in his career, swiping 44 bags from 1970-73.
