Mansfield Athletics

Bunnell earned 11 varsity letters before graduating from Mansfield State Teachers’ College. He earned 3 in football, 4 in basketball and 4 in baseball. Bunnell also led the baseball and basketball teams his senior year as captain. The ’34 Carontawan (Mansfield’s Yearbook) says, “Whether on the baseball diamond, football field, basketball court, around the campus, or on the dance floor, George has been outstanding.” After graduation he played semi-pro baseball in Carbondale, PA. Bunnell began his coaching and teaching career upon graduation from Mansfield at Tunkhannock High School. He coached football, basketball, baseball, and volleyball at Tunkhannock High school for 25 years.
