The Mansfield Foundation and the Mountaineer women’s soccer program have established the Kaitlyn “Mic” McBride Memorial Scholarship Fund.
The fund has been created to honor the life and memory of Katilyn “Mic” McBride.
Mic, who celebrated her 22
nd birthday in April, was set to enter her senior season with the women’s soccer team when she passed away following a tragic automobile accident on a rain-slicked road in her hometown of Washingtonville, NY on June 4, 2012.
Mic was an outstanding student-athlete and, more importantly, a special type of person. An organ-donor, her organs have gone to help others live.
Many of her teammates were in the room with her when she passed away. They resolved, along with head coach Tim Dempsey, to honor her memory by creating an endowed scholarship. Her family requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be directed the Mansfield University Foundation in her name.
“There won’t be a day this season that we don’t all think about Mic,” said head coach Tim Dempsey. “She was a special person and we are committed to insuring her name will forever be associated with the Mansfield University women’s soccer program.”
