Nomination Process

The first step to becoming a Mansfield University Alumni-Athletic Hall of Fame member is the nomination process.  According to the hall of fame guidelines, anyone may nominate a person to the Alumni-Athletic Hall of Fame.

     I.        Award Categories
A.    Member, Alumni-Athletic Hall of Fame
1.   Players
2.   Coaches
3.   Other individuals (i.e., athletic trainers, assistant coaches, or other staff) who have made significant contributions to Mansfield University Athletics.
4.   Team

B.    Legends, Alumni-Athletic Hall of Fame
1.   To recognize contributions of those who graduated 50 or more years before selection.

    II.        Requisite for Selection

A.        The Sport
1.    Must have been on the varsity level for at least one season during the individual's contribution period.

B.     The Player
1.    Must be an alumnus of Mansfield University.
2.    Must have graduated and completed their last season of competition at least five (5) years before selection to the Alumni-Athletic Hall of Fame.
3.    Displays good character and citizenship and loyalty to Mansfield University.
4.    May be either living or deceased.

C.        The Coach
1.    May be selected by having demonstrated an unusually high degree of success.
2.    Should have developed and/or sustained a program that made outstanding contributions to their student-athletes academic and character development over a significant period.
3.    Preferably, has coached the same sport for more than one full season and has not left the sport or Mansfield University for reasons detrimental to the image of Mansfield University.
4.    Must have left the coaching position at least five (5) years before selection to the Alumni-Athletic Hall of Fame, but may still be at Mansfield University in another capacity, coaching or otherwise.
5.    May be either living or deceased.

D.        Other Individual (ex. Trainers, Assistant Coaches, Equipment Managers, etc.)
1.    Must have demonstrated a strong and preferably unique interest in Mansfield University. Examples:
a.    Long periods of support and service to the Athletic Department.
b.    Severe disability of death as a result of athletic participation.
2.    Nominations may also include persons who did not play or coach while at Mansfield, or who had a limited career in athletics but who later achieved great success in athletics as a coach at another university, as a coach or player in professional sports, or as an administrator in college or professional athletics.
3.    Must have graduated or left Mansfield or the position at least five (5) years before selection.
4.    May be living or deceased.

E.       Teams
1.    Must have demonstrated an unusually high degree of success during any given season, including earning a post-season championship.
2.    No team will be considered until ten years after the championship has been completed.

F.      Legends
1.    To recognize contributions of those who graduated at least 50 years before selection.

Submit a letter containing the following information:

·         Name, address, and phone number of nominee
·         Grad year, sport(s), and year(s) played
·         Why the nominee should be in the Hall of Fame.

Please include or attach any additional information that you feel is pertinent and will assist the Awards committee in making their decision.

Selection Process:
The selection committee is comprised of alumni members representing various decades and university-related individuals.  The committee meets each spring to select the inductees for that year.

Nominations are due by Dec. 31 to be considered for the following year's induction class.
