MANSFIELD – This past September, the Mansfield University sprint football program joined hundreds of other teams from around the country in the Coach to Cure MD initiative.
Â
The Mountaineer coaching staff wore Coach to Cure MD patches on their sleeves during the Sept. 30 LUMA at Homecoming game against Cornell to raise awareness of the fundraising effort. Mansfield football, with the help of the cheerleading squad, collected money during the game to support the fight against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
Â
Sprint football has also been involved with Adopt the Troops, the Boy Scout Food Drive, and the Red Cross Red Kettle campaign and plan to do community service at Warren L. Miller Elementary School in Mansfield.
"We constantly need to remind ourselves that there are a lot of people less fortunate then ourselves" said head coach
Rick Novak. "It is always an honor to have a positive influence in helping those who require our help."
Â
GiveBackMU is a month long focus on how the Mansfield University Department of Athletics and its student-athletes support the local community with charitable acts and volunteerism. The culmination of the GiveBackMU campaign is on Tuesday, Nov. 28 when Mansfield holds a special Day of Giving in association with the global Giving Tuesday movement.
Â
Alumni, supporters, and friends of Mountaineer Athletics are kindly asked to make a gift on the Nov. 28 Day of Giving to help provide opportunities for Mansfield student-athletes and further the mission of the university. 100% of gifts given through Mansfield's secure online portal are tax deductible.
