Mountaineer Softball Rewrites Record Books in 2013

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mountaineer Softball Rewrites Record Books in 2013

MANSFIELD – It was a historic season for the Mountaineer softball team who won its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) division title and had the first All-American in program history in 2013. Just as impressive were the number of records that were set throughout the season.

Overall, the Mountaineers set five individual records and four team records.

The 2013 Mountaineers were dangerous at the plate and it showed with team marks being set for extra base hits (105), doubles (67) and home runs (32) in a season. Not only could the Mounties hit, but the pitching staff did its part in setting a team record with 254 total strikeouts.

A big part of Mansfield's prowess at the plate was due to Kate Pratt, the All-American. Pratt led the conference in home runs and shattered her previous record of 10 homers set last season by belting 17 round-trippers in 2013. Pratt's 50 RBIs on the season was the second most in the PSAC and broke the 23-year-old record of 48 set by Deb Gmys. Finally, the junior rebroke her own record of 25 extra base hits set last year by totaling 31 this past season.

Pratt's masterful season put her on top of the Mansfield career lists in home runs (32), doubles (35), RBIs (115) and extra base hits (71).

Courtney Bauder, an All-PSAC selection at second base, led the conference in doubles and set an MU single-season record with 16 on the year.

Mansfield ace and NFCA 2nd team All-Atlantic Region honoree Caitlin Klobosits had a phenomenal season in the circle for the Mountaineers. Klobosits set an individual single-season record for strikeouts with 134.

Mansfield's 25 wins in 2013 were the most since 2004 when the Mounties won 27 games on their way to an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship.
