Edwards Hits NCAA Qualifying Mark in First Race in Over a Year

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Edwards sets school-record 10,000 meters in NCAA qualifying time at Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, SC –  Brenae Edwards is officially back.

The Mansfield University graduate-student, who hadn't run a race for the Red & Black in a little more than a year, ran away from the field in the 10,000 meters at the Shamrock Invitational at Coastal Carolina University Thursday night with an NCAA National Championship qualifying time.

The three-time All-American lapped the field in her first-ever 10,000 meters race, posting a winning time, and NCAA provisionally qualifying mark, of 34:51.5. The time also tops Jess Scordino's school-record of 35:46.96 set last season.

Edwards now holds the school record in the 3,000, 5,000 and 10,000 meters.

It was an incredible performance for Edwards after last year's injury-shortened season. She led the field from the start posting a 17:36 split over the first 5,000 meters and covering the final 5k in 17:15.

The Shamrock Invitational continues through Saturday.
