MANSFIELD – Mansfield University and Mountaineer athletics mourns the loss of Harry Cooley.
Cooley, who was inducted into the Mansfield University Alumni/Athletic Hall of Fame in 1989, passed away at the age of 94 on Monday, August 6.
Services will be held Saturday, August 11, 2012, at 10 a.m., at Bartron-Myer Funeral Home, Inc., Montrose. Visitation will be held Friday, 5:30-7:30 p.m., at the funeral home.
Cooley, a 1941 graduate of Mansfield State Teachers College, was an outstanding wrestler for the Mountaineers winning a state championship in the 135-pound weight class in 1940. Mansfield was undefeated during his freshman season and he served as team captain during his junior and senior years.
Cooley served in the Army from 1942-45 earning Bronze Stars in campaigns at Normandy, Rhineland, Central Europe and Northern France.
Following his service to his country, Cooley was a music teacher in the Interboro School District for 35 years.
