NEW ORLEANS – Senior sprinter
Justen Johnson has been named to the 2012 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II All-Academic Track & Field team.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have reached a provisional or automatic qualifying standard for the NCAA Championships in either indoor or outdoor seasons.
Johnson earned his degree in Sports Nutrition/Pre-Med this past spring and registered an overall GPA of 3.74. He is a four-time MU Presidential and PSAC Scholar-Athlete and recipient of the Division II ADA Academic Achievement Award.
During the indoor season, Johnson became this first Mountaineer sprinter to win an individual PSAC championship by winning the 400m title. The senior followed his record-setting performance at the conference meet by finishing 12
th at the NCAA Championships, another first for an MU sprinter. He was named the PSAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Year and to USTFCCCA All-Region honors following the season.
Johnson placed 3
rd in the 400m finals at the PSAC outdoor championships on his way to being selected to Capital One 2
nd team Academic All-American honors this spring.
