Jess Scordino finishes third in 5,000 at PSAC Championship – Justen Johnson post fastest qualifying time in 400 – Olivia Lopes advances to Saturday's 100 and 200 meter final – Alicia Edkin breaks school hammer record
BLOOMSBURG –
Jess Scordino finished third in the 5,000 meters highlighting an active day for the Mansfield University men's and women track and field teams at Day 2 of the PSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Bloomsburg University Friday.
Scordino, a sophomore, posted a time of 17:58.9 to earn six team points while teammate
Kait Chegwidden finished 21st (19:36.33) on a warm sun-filled day.
Senior
Justen Johnson lived up to his pre-meet billing by turning in the fastest time in the 400 meters, winning his heat with a time of 48.31 to advance into tomorrow championship race.
Also advancing into Saturday's championship races was freshman
Olivia Lopes who posted the fourth fastest time in both the 100 (12.6) and 200 meters (25.42) in Friday preliminary races.
Other notable performances on the day include a 13th place finish by freshman
Jakob Nance in the 110 hurdles (15.71) while sophomore
Yaw Boateng was 14th in the 100 meters (11.10).
Kadeem Calhoun took 19th in the shot put with a heave of 40-9 with teammate freshman
Jacob Cobb finishing one place behind with a toss of 39-4. Freshman
Alex Bock was 24th in the 400 hurdles (1:01.06).
Senior
Alicia Edkin broke her own school-record in the hammer throw with a 138-06 effort, bettering her previous best throw (136-05) by more than two feet to finish 15th.
The PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship wraps up tomorrow at Bloomsburg with Mountaineers qualified in at least 11 different events.
