Gallagher Named PSAC Central Coach of the Year - Danielle Long, Kate Pratt and Stephanie Simmeth Earn All-PSAC Central Honors

MANSFIELD – Mansfield University head softball coach Edith Gallagher was named the 2012 PSAC Central Coach of the Year and Danielle Long, Kate Pratt and Stephanie Simmeth were named to 1st Team All-PSAC Central honors in voting conducted among the head PSAC coaches and released today.

Gallagher, who just completed her 21st season as head coach of the Mountaineers, is the most successful coach in women's athletics at MU with 335 career victories. This season, Gallagher directed Mansfield to a 20-15 overall record and 8-8 PSAC Central record with a team primarily comprised of underclassmen.

The 20 wins were a nine game improvement over last season while the eight divisional wins doubled last year's total making Mansfield the most improved program in the division.

Mansfield improved its team batting average by 50 points going from .238 in 2011 to .288 this year. The Mountaineers also almost doubled their run production from 99 runs scored in 2011 to 183 in 2012.

Danielle Long (Pottstown/Pottsgrove) was named to the All-PSAC Central team at third base. The junior batted .274 on the season with her 17 hits including four doubles and three home runs. She also drove in 13 runs while scoring 13 times.

Long was especially effective against conference competition batting .314 with a .629 slugging percentage with two doubles and three home runs against PSAC Central foes.

Kate Pratt (Troy/Troy) earns All-PSAC Central honors for the season straight season and being named to second team honors as a freshman. The sophomore shortstop and pitcher led the Mountaineers in batting at .379 clip with her 44 hits including 14 doubles, a triple and school-record 10 home runs. In addition, Pratt drove in a team-best 42 RBI's while scoring a team-high 33 runs.

Pratt was equally effective on the mound where she finished the season with a 7-5 overall record striking out 61 batters in 73.2 innings worked while walking just 17.

Pratt ranked among the conference leaders in seven different categories including second in slugging percentage (.776), third in doubles (14), fourth in RBI (42), sixth in home runs (10) and seventh in total bases (90). As a pitcher she allowed the fifth lowest opponent batting average (.224) in the PSAC. She was named PSAC Central Pitcher of the Week twice and Player of the Week once during the season.

simmeth
Stephanie Simmeth (Cheektowaga, NY/St. Mary's) was named to All-PSAC Central honors as an outfielder. The sophomore center fielder had an exceptional season batting .374 with 44 hits including 14 doubles and two home runs.

A leadoff batter for much of the year, Simmeth started all 35 games, scoring 26 runs and driving in a team second-most 20 runs. She also topped the team with a .446 on-base percentage and posted a perfect fielding percentage in 39 chances.

Simmeth ranked 10th in the PSAC in batting percentage while tying Pratt for third in the conference in doubles (14). She also ranked seventh in on-base percentage (.446). She earned PSAC Central Player of the Week honors for the week ending 3/18/2012.
