FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Kate Pratt named PSAC Central Player of the Week
MANSFIELD – Mansfield University standout
Kate Pratt (Troy/Troy) was named the PSAC Central Player of the Week for her outstanding performance in the Mountaineers doubleheader with No. 24 ranked Bloomsburg.
Pratt had two home runs and drove in five runs in Mansfield's 6-2 win over Bloomsburg in the nightcap of a PSAC Central doubleheader on Friday. The win was the first for the Mountaineers over the Huskies since 2006. For the week, the sophomore shortstop batted .333 with a remarkable 1.333 slugging percentage.
Pratt hit her first home run, a three-run shot over the left field fence, with Mansfield trailing 2-1 in bottom of the third inning and belted another home run, this time a two-run homer, two innings later giving the Mountaineers a 6-2 advantage.
The sophomore shortstop/pitcher has been one of the keys in Mansfield's 12-5 start this season batting .379 with a team-best four home runs and 20 runs batted in. More than half of her 22 hits on the season have been for extra-bases including eight doubles and four home runs. She has also scored 22 times.
Pratt also leads the pitching staff in wins (4-1), ERA (1.15) and complete games (4) this season. She has struck out 31 hitters while walking just four on the year.
It marks the third time this season Pratt has won weekly PSAC honors. She was named PSAC Central Pitcher of the Week in each of the past two weeks.
Mansfield travels to IUP this Friday for a key PSAC Central matchup before hosting East Stroudsburg in a doubleheader on Saturday.
