FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: More than 75 student-athletes attend first sprint football meeting – first practice session set for Thursday

MANSFIELD – More than 75 student-athletes attended the sprint football organizational meeting Monday afternoon in Decker Gymnasium.

Head coach Dan Davis and his staff welcomed both new and returning players and went over a challenging preseason practice schedule that meets the Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) strict limit of just 15 practice sessions prior to the first game of the season.

The team will have its first full-pad scrimmage on Sunday followed by an intra-squad scrimmage on Labor Day.

Mansfield, which posted a 2-5 mark in its first season as a full-time member of the CSFL in 2009, opens the 2010 campaign when the Mountaineers host Cornell University for the 11th annual Josh Palmer Pigskin Classic on September 18.

Army visits Mansfield for the first time in school history for Fabulous 1890s and Parents Day Weekend on Sept. 25. The Mountaineers will hit the road for the first time the next week when they travel to Princeton University for a Friday night game on Oct. 1 before returning home to host the University of Pennsylvania for Homecoming weekend on Oct. 9.

Mansfield finishes out the remainder of the season on the road traveling to Navy on Oct. 15 and then, following a bye-week, away games at Post University on Oct. 30 and Cornell University on Nov. 6.
