Mansfield, PA – Sarah Lyon, a native of Clymer, NY and recent graduate from Kean University, has joined the Mansfield University athletic training staff as a graduate-assistant for the 2010-11 academic year.

The announcement was made today by MU Head Athletic Trainer Laurie Zaparzynski.

Lyon graduated Suma Cum Laude with a 3.89 GPA from Kean University in New Jersey where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training with minors in health education and psychology. Lyon is a Pennsylvania State Licensed Athletic Trainer and holds nine American Red Cross certifications. In 2009, she was awarded the Hartman-Conco Sports Medicine Eastern Athletic Trainers' Association scholarship.

During her undergraduate studies, Lyon assisted and observed certified athletic trainers during the men's basketball, women's soccer, and men's lacrosse seasons at Kean. Lyon was also assigned to work with the Linden High School football and soccer programs.

Lyon was an outstanding student-athlete for the Kean University basketball and track and field teams. In 2006, she helped her basketball team win a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) championship and appeared in the NCAA Elite 8. In track and field, Lyon was the 2010 NJAC discus champion and was named to 1st team NJAC All-Academic honors. Lyon placed 3rd in discus and 5th in shot put at the NJAC conference meet in 2008.

While working at Mansfield as a graduate-assistant, Lyon will peruse her Master's of Science in Athletic Training though East Stroudsburg University's online program.
